Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of Britain’s top free tourist attractions, and has over 125 rides to choose from. This park will ensure that the whole family enjoys their day out as there are a variety of rides on offer, from the Big Dipper and Avalanche to Alice in Wonderland and Bradley Beaver’s Log Flume. It is also the only theme park to hold the world’s first interactive maze - there is nothing else like it. New to this year is Infusion, with five loops and rolls, guaranteed to make your senses tingle with anticipation. Drayton Manor Ticket Prices: Adults- £20.95, Children- £16.95, Family of four- £66. This is the UK’s largest family owned theme park where you can encounter legendary rides, such as Apocalypse and Shockwave. Apocalypse is believed to be the best tower drop ride, as you reach heights of 200ft, and Shockwave is just as adrenaline pumping, being Europe’s only stand up rollercoaster. Especially for kids or those not ready for these rides is Buffalo, a rollercoaster which takes you right over the lake for an unforgettable experience. The Pirate Adventure, an indoor dark water ride, has some of the best theming seen in a UK adventure park. Alton Towers Ticket Prices: Adults- £34, Child (under 12) - £24, Family of four- £90. Alton Towers is home to some of the greatest rollercoasters, including some of the scariest. This popular theme park includes Nemesis and Oblivion, and is introducing another new rollercoaster, Rita. Don’t be fooled by the name, this rollercoaster can reach an amazing 0-100mph in 2.8 seconds. For those who may not fancy the idea of being spun around in the air at these speeds, try the Flume or the Congo River Rapids for a fun, wet time. Try Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Ride, as it takes you through the chocolate factory and up the famous glass elevator. Chessington World of Adventures Ticket Prices: Adult- £29, Children- £19, Family of four- £74.
This family park is 90% made up of rides suitable for
children under 12 years, making this ideal for a family with little ones. The legendary Bubbleworks is a ride that
everyone will enjoy, and the Runaway Mine Train is a classic as it takes you in
and out of the rocky scenery. The
Rattlesnake is a rollercoaster with a mind of its own as the ride has separate
carriages, resulting in the rider being thrown around tight corners for an
unforgettable time. The Hocus Pocus hall
is especially popular with children as the theme is wizardry, based on Harry
Potter.
Thorpe Park Ticket Prices: Adult- £32, Children- £20, Family of four- £88. This park features some incredible rides, like Tidal Wave and Rush. Rush is the world’s biggest air-powered speed swing, launching riders into the air at some terrifying speeds. Tidal Wave is different to other water rides as it plunges you from a scary 85ft into a huge wall of water. Samurai is unforgettable as you twist and roll in every direction, and then fly over the lake and trees down to the ground at a scary speed. Nemesis Inferno, Detonator, Depth Charge and Colossus are other rides available, guaranteed to make this day out one the kids will never forget.
Flamingo Land www.theonegaencydevelopment.co.uk/flamingo_land Ticket Prices: Adults and Children (over four) - £20, Children under three go free, Family of four - £74. This features a Theme Park, Zoo and Holiday Village and is set in 375 acres of North Yorkshire parkland. It has a range of family rides to choose from, one of the most interesting being the Splash Battle new for 2007, involving taking command of your own submarine as you go through water jets and fountains. Flamingo Land has six of the most extreme rides in the country including Cliff Hanger, Velocity and Corkscrew. These are all unique in their own way; Velocity is the UK’s only motorbike launch rollercoaster which launches you from 0-100mph in under three seconds. Lightwater Valley Ticket Prices: Adults- £15.95, Children under 1.3 metre- £14.50, Children under one metre- Free, Family of four- £58. There is something for everyone here with such a wide variety to choose from. For the very young there are the enchanting Swan Lake Pedal Boats which take you away from all the extreme rides, by taking you around the Lightwater Lake. For those who are a bit more adventurous the Jaw Droppers may be the thing for you. The most extreme being the Hornets’ Nest as once you are on you will be sent spinning in so many directions your sense of thrill will turn upside down literally. Other jaw-dropping rides include The Black Widow’s Web and Skyrider.
