The most successful job seekers are aware that, when it comes to finding a new job, the best ones are not always about the salary.
There are many factors when it comes to choosing the right position for you and it is important you know what your priorities are before starting your job search.
Firstly, identify your skills and see how they will translate into your new position.
Your next move should be to gather as much information as possible about the company you are hoping to work for. It is always good to go into an interview armed with knowledge about the organisation and its aims.
Salary is an important aspect as well. Although it isn’t everything, you need to figure out exactly how much your skills are worth and whether the remuneration on offer is going to be enough for you to live on and save.
Also, investigate the company’s bonus scheme and if you are going to get a yearly salary increase. And if, after your probation period in the company, you would be entitled to a raise as well as to any company benefit schemes that are on offer.
Another thing worth considering is family-related factors. How family-friendly is the company? Do they have flexible working hours and will you be able to take advantage of them?
Check out the company’s website before you apply got the job and arm yourself with these questions should you get invited to an interview.
While location may seem like a secondary factor, it can be an issue for those who are not willing to spend half their day on the dreaded commute. Weigh up the pros and cons of applying for positions that are not centrally located to where you live.
Would you mind spending hours on a train and the underground? Or sitting on the M25 stuck in a traffic jam? If this doesn’t sound like something you will be able to handle, then it might be an idea to look for jobs that are local or within a reasonable distance from your home.
If you know what your priorities are at the beginning of your job hunt, then you can’t go far wrong. Good luck! |
